Ongoing Care
Continue meeting regularly. Your therapist will adapt the approach as you grow and evolve.
Your First Session
What Happens in Your First Session
Your first session is all about getting to know each other. Your therapist will take the time to understand your story, your concerns, and what brought you to therapy. There is no pressure to share everything at once. You set the pace.
During this session, your therapist will ask about your current challenges, your personal history, your relationships, and your goals for therapy. They may also ask about your physical health, sleep, and daily routines, as these are all connected to your mental well-being.
Together, you will begin to create a treatment plan that reflects your unique needs and preferences. Your therapist will explain their approach, discuss how often you might meet, and answer any questions you have about the process.
Most importantly, this first session is an opportunity for you to see if you feel comfortable with your therapist. The therapeutic relationship is one of the most important factors in successful therapy, and we want you to feel safe, heard, and understood.
Preparation
How to Prepare for Your First Visit
A few simple things you can do to help yourself feel ready.
Reflect on Your Goals
Think about what you hope to gain from therapy. It is okay if you are not sure yet. Your therapist will help you clarify your goals together.
Write Down Key Concerns
Jotting down the main issues or feelings you want to address can help you feel more focused during your session. There is no wrong answer here.
Plan to Arrive Early
Arriving 10 to 15 minutes early gives you time to settle in, complete any remaining paperwork, and transition into a calm and present mindset.
Be Gentle with Yourself
It is completely normal to feel nervous before your first session. Your therapist understands this and will meet you exactly where you are.
