Our Story
At Serenity Mind Wellness, we believe that seeking therapy is an act of courage -- and that you deserve a space where that courage is met with warmth, expertise, and genuine care.
Therapy should feel safe, accessible, and deeply personal. Everyone deserves a place where they can be seen, heard, and supported without judgment.
Our Mission
Compassionate Care for Every Journey
Our mission is to provide high-quality, evidence-based mental health care that meets you exactly where you are. We believe that healing is not a linear path, and we honor every step you take -- even the ones that feel small.
We envision a community where mental health care is destigmatized, accessible, and culturally affirming. By building a practice rooted in empathy and clinical excellence, we aim to create lasting change -- not just for individual clients, but for the families and communities they are part of.
How We Began
A Practice Built on Purpose
Founded in 2018 by Dr. Sarah Chen, Serenity Mind Wellness was born from a belief that therapy should feel safe, accessible, and deeply personal. After years of working in clinical settings where she saw brilliant, caring clients fall through the cracks of an overwhelmed system, Dr. Chen decided to build something different -- a practice where every person who walks through the door is treated as a whole human being, not a diagnosis.
What started as a solo practice in a cozy Portland office has grown into a team of four dedicated clinicians, each bringing their own unique background, expertise, and passion to the work. But our core philosophy has never changed: we believe that the therapeutic relationship is the foundation of all healing, and we invest deeply in building that trust with every client we serve.
Today, Serenity Mind Wellness serves individuals, couples, families, and adolescents across the Portland metro area and throughout Oregon via telehealth. Our team speaks four languages, represents diverse cultural backgrounds, and specializes in a wide range of concerns -- from anxiety and trauma to ADHD, relationship issues, and life transitions. No matter what brings you here, you will find a team that is genuinely glad you came.
Our Values
What Guides Our Work
These four principles shape every interaction, every treatment plan, and every decision we make as a practice.
Client-Centered Care
Your goals, your pace, your story. We tailor every treatment plan to honor your unique experience and support the outcomes that matter most to you.
Evidence-Based Practice
We use therapeutic approaches grounded in research -- like CBT, EMDR, DBT, and ACT -- so you can feel confident that your treatment is both compassionate and effective.
Culturally Responsive
We recognize that your cultural background, identity, and lived experiences are integral to your mental health. Our team reflects and honors the diversity of the communities we serve.
Collaborative Approach
Healing is not something we do to you -- it is something we do with you. We see therapy as a partnership built on trust, transparency, and mutual respect.
Our Commitment
Diversity, Equity & Inclusion
We believe that quality mental health care must be inclusive, affirming, and anti-oppressive. Our team is committed to ongoing education and self-reflection around issues of race, ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, socioeconomic status, and all other dimensions of identity.
We actively work to dismantle barriers to care in our community. This includes offering sliding-scale fees, providing services in multiple languages, and ensuring that our therapeutic approaches are culturally responsive and trauma-informed. We welcome and affirm clients of all backgrounds, identities, and life experiences.
We recognize that this work is ongoing and imperfect. We are committed to listening, learning, and growing -- both as individual clinicians and as a practice -- so that every person who reaches out to us feels truly seen and valued.
