Understanding the Process
What Is Child & Adolescent Therapy?
Growing up brings its own unique set of challenges. Children and teens often experience big emotions, social pressures, academic stress, and family transitions that can feel overwhelming. Our child and adolescent therapists are specially trained to connect with young people on their level, using play therapy, art, talk therapy, and other creative approaches to help them express themselves, build resilience, and develop healthy coping skills that will serve them throughout their lives.
Is This Right for You?
Who Is It For?
This service is for children and adolescents, typically ages 5 through 17, who are experiencing emotional, behavioral, or social difficulties. Common reasons families seek therapy for young people include anxiety, mood changes, school avoidance, bullying, social challenges, family transitions like divorce or a new sibling, attention and focus difficulties, self-harm, or simply needing a safe space outside the family to process their world. We also work with parents and caregivers to support the child's progress at home.
Your Experience
What to Expect
For children, sessions are often 45 to 50 minutes and may involve play therapy, art, games, storytelling, or other creative modalities depending on the child's age and needs. For adolescents, sessions are typically more conversational but may still include creative elements. Parents and caregivers are involved in the process through periodic parent sessions, updates, and guidance on how to support progress at home. The first session usually includes time with the parent, time with the child, and a brief wrap-up together.
